As the Dry Air Settles In
By Dr. Paula Gessner and Belgrey Wellness Center | December 09, 2011 at 11:52 PM EST | No Comments

Hello,
As the cold air finally hits us, please remember to increase and maintain your intake of water.  I'm seeing lots of dehydrated people in the office.  Besides drying out your skin, dry mucous membranes in your nose can lead to an increase in sinus infections and leave you prone to other invasive "beasties" (like the flu).  Dehydration also increases the number of nosebleeds in people who suffer from this annoying condition. A humidifier will help too.
How much water should you drink?  About half your weight in ounces (not to exceed 3 quarts per day).  So, if you weigh 180 pounds.  Half that would be 90 ounces or roughly 2.8 quarts per day.  Yes, it seems like a lot of water but you'll get used to it (and it helps lower your appetite, too!).
